Amber Smith has more than 10 years of professional experience working with children, adolescents, and families in residential and outpatient settings. She utilizes a brief-solution focused framework while also pulling from other schools of counseling. She also integrates faith into counseling. This allows her to tailor her counseling to be eclectic in her approach towards clients’ individual needs.
She graduated magna cum laude from Troy University where she received both her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Psychology and Counseling. While attending Troy University, Amber was active in the Gamma Beta Phi Society, a national honors and service society. Her professional memberships include: American Counseling Association and American Association of Christian Counselors. She has also completed the Level-One Theraplay® training.
"There is always the danger that we may just do the work for the sake of the work. This is where the respect and the love and the devotion come in --that we do it to God, to Christ, and that's why we try to do it as beautifully as possible." — Mother Teresa
She loves the preceding quote from Mother Teresa and feels blessed knowing her “work” is her calling. She believes God put her on earth to be a mother and to “beautifully” reach out to hurting children through therapy. Her passion is for God, her family, and all children. She has been married for more than 17 years, and has three beautiful children. She loves her roles as a wife and mother and feels these roles have strengthened her counseling skills. Her family attends and serves at Antioch Baptist Church. She enjoys spending time with family, fishing, sporting events, movies, and traveling.
